Check how ready your content is for AI search

The ReadRankAI GEO Score Checker rates how ready a page or article is to be used and cited by AI tools. You get an overall GEO score out of 100, a separate score for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and the issues holding your content back. It uses the same scoring as the ReadRankAI GEO Optimizer, so the same text and keyword get the same score in both on the same day.

GEO (generative engine optimization) is the practice of making content easy for AI tools to find, understand and quote. New to it? Start with what GEO is and how it differs from SEO in our SEO vs GEO guide.

How to use the GEO Score Checker

  1. Add your content. Enter the address of a published page, or paste your article text.
  2. Enter your target keyword, the question or topic you want AI tools to cite you for.
  3. Click Check GEO score. When the check finishes, you see your overall GEO score, your score for each AI platform, and the top issues to fix.
  4. Fix the gaps. Use the suggestions yourself, or, with a free account, open the article in the GEO Optimizer to rewrite it for the platforms where you score lowest.

What the GEO score measures

An AI review rates your content on seven criteria that affect whether AI tools pick it as a source.

CriterionWhat it looks for
Direct answer firstThe main question is answered in the opening lines
Quotable statementsClear, self-contained sentences an AI can quote as they are
Extractable structureHeadings, lists and tables that make answers easy to pull out
Question coverageAnswers to the follow-up questions people ask about the topic
Specific and concreteNumbers, names and examples instead of vague claims
Accurate and currentCorrect, up-to-date facts
Sources and experienceCited sources and signs of first-hand experience

The checker weighs these criteria differently for each AI platform, based on what each one tends to favor in a source. In our scoring, ChatGPT puts the most weight on quotable statements and direct answers, Google AI Overviews on direct answers and clean structure, and Perplexity on sources and experience. That's why your five platform scores can differ.

How to read your score

A higher score means your content has more of the qualities AI tools look for. It's not a promise of citations: those also depend on your site's authority, your search rankings and what else exists on the topic.

Before you score: make sure AI can reach your page

A great score won't help if AI crawlers are blocked from your site. Check that your robots.txt allows search crawlers like OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot and PerplexityBot with our free AI Crawler Checker. It takes a few seconds and needs no account.

Frequently asked questions

What is a GEO score?

A GEO score rates how ready a piece of content is to be used and cited by AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. The ReadRankAI GEO score is out of 100 and is based on seven criteria, including a direct answer, quotable statements, structure and cited sources.

Is the GEO Score Checker free?

Yes. You can run 1 check a day without an account. A free ReadRankAI account gives you 3 GEO analyses a day, shared with the GEO Optimizer, and the full list of issues.

Can I check a page that is already published?

Yes. Enter the page address and your keyword, and the checker reads the page and scores it the same way as pasted text. Some sites block automated readers. If yours does, paste the article text instead.

Why are my platform scores different?

Each AI platform picks sources in its own way, so the checker weighs the seven criteria differently for each one. A page can score well for Google AI Overviews and lower for Perplexity, for example, if it has clean structure but few cited sources.

Does a high GEO score guarantee AI citations?

No tool can guarantee that an AI platform will cite you. A high score means your content has the qualities these platforms look for in a source. Citations also depend on your site's authority, your rankings and what else exists on the topic.

How do I improve my GEO score?

Start with the top issues the checker shows. The most common fixes are answering the main question in the first lines, adding specific facts and sources, and using clear headings and lists. With a free account, you can also open the article in the GEO Optimizer to rewrite it for your weakest platform.
